Noah’s Favor and Our Divine Privilege

Today, I was reading from Genesis 6—the story of Noah. This passage recounts how Noah found favor in God’s eyes, receiving knowledge and instructions that no one else had. God told Noah to build an ark and gave him precise details about its construction and who should enter it.

One phrase in particular stood out to me: "keep them alive with you." God repeats this instruction, emphasizing Noah’s role in preserving life. Through Noah’s obedience, animal life continued beyond the flood. In this way, Noah became a savior for animal kind, ensuring their survival and multiplication after the flood.

As I reflected on this passage, I saw three divine privileges that God granted to Noah:

1. God Shared His Thoughts and Plans with Noah
This is a remarkable privilege. To have access to divine knowledge—to hear God’s plans directly—is an extraordinary gift. Noah didn’t arrive at this understanding by his own wisdom; God revealed it to him because Noah had found favor in His sight.

2. God Established a Covenant with Noah
A covenant with God is no small matter. It is a divine agreement, carrying eternal weight. When God binds Himself to a promise, it is unbreakable. Noah didn’t just receive a task; he received a relationship with God, marked by a covenant.

3. God Made Noah a Source of Life
Noah didn’t just save himself; he became a source of life for the world. Every living creature that survived the flood did so through Noah’s obedience. Being a savior is a divine quality, and in this moment, Noah was entrusted with a role that mirrored God’s own nature.

Recognizing My Own Divine Privilege

As I pondered these truths, I was reminded that I, too, have found favor in God’s sight—not because of anything I have done, but because of the salvation I have received through Jesus Christ. Just as Noah received divine privilege and responsibility, so have I.

God shares His thoughts and plans with me. Through His Word and His Spirit, He reveals His purposes and calls me to walk in them.

God has made a covenant with me. Through Jesus, I am in a covenant relationship with God, sealed by His blood.

God calls me to be a channel of life. Just as Noah was used to preserve life, I am called to bring the life-giving message of Jesus to others.

What a beautiful reminder of the privilege and responsibility that comes with salvation! Lord, help me to be mindful of this, to be intentional in my walk with You, and to recognize that You have given me far more than I could ever imagine. May I be faithful to Your calling and a channel of blessing to those around me.

A Prayer for Faithfulness

Lord, thank You for the privilege of being called Your own. Thank You for sharing Your thoughts with me, for bringing me into Your covenant, and for calling me to be a source of life in this world. Help me to walk in obedience, to be faithful in all You entrust to me, and to always remember the favor I have in Christ. Amen.
